About Us
Galatea Body Casting Studio is a business run by Tina Flores and Dorota Quiroz, two artists and good friends ,who aspire that their creations are as beautiful as the real people they try to imitate.
Our idea for this unique kind of art business was born in March of 2008 while working on school art project involving casting. We are planning to make an appearance at this year’s International Folk Festival in Fayetteville, NC.

Tina Flores
Tina Flores is a native of Connecticut, and has relocated to North Carolina via the US Army. She now lives in Cameron NC with her husband Will.
Tina's art interest began as a child, where her mom bought her a child's pottery wheel. It was love at first sight, even though all that seemed to be made were lots of ashtrays! Later in her life she was bought a "real" potters wheel by her husband and her life has not been the same since. She has created many forms on the wheel and by hand-building. Her favorite pieces are those that are made from the impression of real leaves into the clay. Through this, she believes, the clay captures the life and story of that leaf forever. She is also doing a series of masks created from facial impressions and incorporating leaves to create "green men" or "forest walkers".
Tina obtained a degree in art education through the University of North Carolina and is currently an art teacher in a middle school on Ft Bragg. While working there she became good friends with Dorota, and through that Galatea body casting was born.
Tina believes lifecasting is a lost art that everyone should be experiencing in some way or form. It is her passion to continue immortalzing the human form, and creating a memory that will last forever.

When it comes to writing personal and artistic statements, or even reading them for that matter, I usually lose my focus after two sentences... Don't you?
Don't take me wrong now, I love to read and write, but for some reason most of these statements are removed from the reality of life and their lack of fleshy substance fail to deliver important information about the artist and what s/he stands for.
In order to avoid self-perpetual hypocrysy, I will state my position as an artist in 5 quick statements:
1. WHO AM I ? A thirty something white middle class American woman of European descent, travelling between New York State and North Carolina, trying to do something with my life that will be worth mentioning to my future generations.
2. WHAT DO I STAND FOR ? Being alive, doing things and going places. I love strong opinions and raving debates. I hate lukewarm tendencies and empty monologues.
3. WHAT AM I SAYING ABOUT THE WORLD WITH MY ARTWORK? The world is beautiful and terrifying place full of happenings, events and conditions that require bold statements and strong commentary.
4. WHAT ARE MY GREATEST DREAMS AS AN ARTIST ? To run a successful art business, to become a creative teacher and to never forget learning.
5. WHAT ARE MY GREATEST FEARS AS AN ARTIST ? Complacency, Mediocracy and Sloth.
